Megabus is eliminating its stop in Hartford effective September 14th, making its New York to Boston route nonstop. The stop was added only last December.
While this is good news, at it will speed up service on the route, it is hardly good news for the people in Hartford. One blog has an analysis of Hartford to Boston pricing. Not only is Greyhound, the remaining carrier, more expensive, but it may raise its prices now that lacks competition.
We mourn whenever a transit option is lost. But Megabus and its ilk are bringing bus travel back as a viable option, with clean, moderately reliable service up and down the East Coast and elsewhere.
